SSU exposes attempt to steal about UAH 3 billion on the construction of Podilskyi Bridge

The SSU disrupted a group of individuals who misappropriated funds allocated for the construction of Podilskyi Bridge in Kyiv. According to estimates, they attempted to steal UAH 3 billion (USD 114 m) of budget money.

The suspects overstated the cost of work on the site and prepared completion certificates for the work that was not actually performed.

The group involved accomplices, who forged accounting documentation, kept the so-called ‘shadow accounting’; set up or looked for risky legal entities to use in illegal activities.

During the search in their clandestine office, the law enforcement seized:

  • 37 seals of risky companies - direct counterparties of the main contractor of the construction of the bridge;
  • false accounting and records confirming the billion losses to the state;
  • computers and means of communication used by the accomplices in the illegal activity.

The pre-trial investigation into embezzlement through abuse of office is underway.

The SSU Cyber Security Department carried out the operation under the supervision of Kyiv Podilskyi District Prosecutor’s Office.
