SSU exposes russian informant directing Lancet drones on Kostiantynivka

The SSU Counterintelligence has detained another russian informant who was spying near the front line in Donetsk region. The perpetrator was adjusting attacks by russian Lancet kamikaze drones on residential buildings in Kostiantynivka.

According to the investigation, the russian air strikes were directed by a 59-year-old local unemployed man recruited by the occupiers. He came to the attention of russian intelligence after posting calls on Telegram for the capture of the local community.

The suspect provided his handler with geospatial data on buildings where Ukrainian defenders were thought to be based.

The informant also leaked the coordinates of critical social infrastructure facilities that keep the city running under continuous russian shelling.

As russian attacks on the city intensified, the informer fled to Lviv region, posing as an internally displaced person, in an attempt to go into hiding.

However, traitor’s efforts failed. SSU officers have established the agent's whereabouts and detained him in a rented apartment. During the search, he was seized of a smartphone with evidence of his cooperation with the occupiers.

SSU investigators have notified the detainee of suspicion under Article 114-2.2 of the CCU (unauthorized dissemination of information about the movement, relocation, or deployment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, committed under martial law).

The question of further criminal qualification of his actions is being resolved. The perpetrator is in custody and faces up to 8 years in prison.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Donetsk and Luhansk regions under the procedural supervision of Donetsk Region Prosecutor’s Office.
