SBU blocks anonymous online resources chain
The SBU cyber specialists exposed a group of persons selling fake medical certificates via a network of anonymous online resources. In particular, the dealers sold forged certificates with negative COVID-19 test results and medical sick leave certificates.
During the pre-trial investigation, the SBU documented that a network of web resources was created by two residents of Kyiv region in July 2020. The attackers forged negative PCR test results for COVID-19 for travelling abroad. They also forged medical certificates for obtaining driving licenses and medical sick leave certificates with forged seals of Kyiv national and municipal medical centers.
Allegedly, the suspects sold up to ten forged certificates every day. The cost depended on urgency and the type of document. The average price was UAH 1,000 (USD 36) per certificate.
The perpetrators registered several bogus firms and opened bank accounts for fictitious persons to receive money for forged documents. The delivery of fake certificates was carried out by courier services.
During the searches of the organizers' residences, the law enforcement officers seized computers and mobile phones with evidence of illegal activities.
The investigation is ongoing. The issue of serving the offenders suspicion notices of forgery of documents, seals, stamps and forms and forgery of documents submitted for state registration of legal entities and natural persons-entrepreneurs is being settled.
