The SBU blocked smuggling of drugs from one of the Latin American countries. The SBU seized almost 60 kg of cocaine worth USD 10 m. on the black market.

Smugglers hid the drugs in a shipping container with bananas. During a customs inspection of the cargo in Pivdennyi seaport, the SBU officers seized hidden packs with cocaine. The offenders planned to smuggle the cargo from Ukraine to the EU.

Allegedly, the members of one of the world's most powerful criminal organization Ndrangheta are involved in narcotics smuggling.

On 9 August, the SBU detained three organizers of drug trafficking in Odesa region. The SBU served them suspicion notices. Custody was chosen as a type of detention.

The investigation into smuggling of narcotics, psychotropic substances, their analogues or precursors is ongoing to prosecute those involved in the illegal activity.

The operation was carried out by the SBU Office in Odesa region jointly with the State Border Guard Service, the State Customs Service and the National Police Department of Strategic Investigations in Odesa Region under the supervision of the Odesa Region Prosecutor's Office.
