SBU blocks smuggling channel and seizes precursors worth UAH 4 m (video)
The SBU blocked a large-scale channel for precursor smuggling through the Boryspil International Airport. Offenders imported precursors for production of drugs from one of the Arab countries. An estimated street value of the seized consignment is almost UAH 4 m.
According to the investigation, the scam was organized by a resident of Dnipropetrovsk region together with accomplices from the Middle East. The offenders bought precursors in one of the local Arab medical networks and made pseudoephedrine in clandestine drug labs used for further production of drugs.
Then drug couriers as ordinary tourists transported large consignments of banned drugs to Ukraine, disguised as souvenirs and confectionery. Precursors were sold in Dnipropetrovsk region.
Law enforcement officers detained one of the couriers at the airport. He concealed precursors in the baggage. 2 kg of pseudoephedrine were seized.
The offender received a suspicion notice for smuggling of precursors. Investigative actions are underway.
The special operation was carried out by the SBU Office in Dnipropetrovsk region, SBU Main Directorate of Economic Counterintelligence Protection of State's Interests, SBU Main Directorate for Combating Corruption and Organized Crime jointly with the State Border Guard Service and State Customs Service of Ukraine under the supervision of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Prosecutor's Office.
