SBU documents fictitious repair work for Ukrzaliznytsia

The SBU documented an illegal scheme of embezzlement in JSC Ukrzaliznytsia. The offenders conducted fictitious repair work on diesel generators. The condition of such equipment is important for traffic safety at critical infrastructure.

The operatives established that the offenders acted with the support of officials of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia. Instead of carrying out major repairs of existing diesel generators, the perpetrators bought cheap equipment of unknown origin.

To conceal the scheme, technical, accounting and other documentation was falsified.

The examinations initiated by the SBU confirmed UAH 2 m. (USD 72,000) of losses to JSC Ukrzaliznytsia.

Currently, the chief engineer of one of the divisions of the regional branch of the South-Western Railway of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” was served a notice of suspicion. The investigation is ongoing to bring to justice all those involved in the scheme.

The operation was conducted by the SBU Main Directorate for Counterintelligence Protection of the State's Interests in the Sphere of Economic Security jointly with the Main Investigation Department of the National Police under supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
