The SBU exposed a former top manager of Ukrzaliznytsia on large-scale embezzlement. The funds were allocated for the repair of the company’s rolling stock.

The SBU operatives established that the official involved a bogus firm as a contractor. The firm ostensibly had necessary production capacity and qualified personnel. In fact, the work was actually performed by Ukrzaliznytsia employees with the use of spare parts of unknown origin.

The repairs were conducted in much smaller amounts than provided by the regulations, and in violation of technological norms.

The SBU-initiated expertise established the fact of damage to Ukrzaliznytsia in total amount of almost UAH 58,6 m. (USD 2,1 m.). The tax payment was illegally reduced by UAH 6,4 m. (USD 228,000).

The offender was served a notice of suspicion of evasion of taxes, duties or other compulsory payments.

The investigation is ongoing.

The operation was conducted by the SBU Main Directorate for Counterintelligence Protection of the State’s Interests in the Sphere of Economic Security under the supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
