The SBU exposed a large-scale illegal scheme of embezzlement of Ukrzaliznytsia funds. The money was allocated for the maintenance of a critical infrastructure facility of the railway industry.

Allegedly, the offenders organized the scheme during the restoration of the rail bridge on the section of the international railway Homel - Chernihiv - Kyiv. The functioning of the transport corridor passing through the territory of Ukraine depends on the proper maintenance of this object.

The SBU operatives established that the officials of the South-Western Railway conspired with the contractor's management. During the overhaul of the critical infrastructure facility, they artificially inflated the amount of work performed and the cost of materials.

Within the investigation, the SBU initiated examinations, which confirmed doubling the cost of the contract. By their actions, the offenders endangered the stable and safe operation of the bridge. Thanks to the efforts of the SBU, the specialists restored the safety of the rail bridge.

Currently, the organizers of the scheme have been served a notice of suspicion of misappropriation, embezzlement or conversion of property by malversation and forgery in office.

The operation was conducted by the SBU Office in Chernihiv region jointly with the SBU Main Directorate for Counterintelligence Protection of the State’s Interests in the Sphere of Economic Security, National Police Investigation Department in Chernihiv city under the supervision of regional Prosecutor's Office.
