SSU urges citizens to remain vigilant as russia steps up creation of fake pages impersonating Ukrainian government bodies
The Security Service of Ukraine has observed a significant increase in activity by russian intelligence services aimed at creating websites and social media accounts that imitate official resources of Ukrainian state bodies as well as Ukrainian media outlets.
Through these fake resources, the enemy is attempting to conduct information and psychological operations and disinformation campaigns designed to destabilise the socio-political situation in Ukraine and undermine the country’s standing internationally.
russian intelligence services are also using such resources to collect personal data of Ukrainian citizens. The SSU has established that ruscists frequently hack the accounts of users who follow fake social media pages and channels on messenger apps in order to steal their personal information. The data is subsequently used for recruitment attempts and to obtain confidential information.
Information concerning the combat and operational activities of Ukraine’s Defence and Security Forces is of special interest to the russian intelligence services.
In particular, the SSU’s Cyber Security Department has identified and blocked more than 50 websites that imitated the branding and appearance of the Security Service of Ukraine.
The SSU, therefore, once again urges citizens to remain vigilant, avoid clicking on suspicious links and rely exclusively on official sources of information.
