SSU urges Ukrainians not to record or share footage of enemy attacks
The Security Service of Ukraine urges citizens not to record or share photos and videos of russian attacks. In particular, please, do not publish footage showing russian strikes on military facilities and critical infrastructure, air defence operations, or the aftermath of such attacks.
Such footage may be used not only by russian propaganda outlets but also by the russian military, who monitor and analyse publicly available material to adjust subsequent strikes.
The SSU emphasises that the dissemination of such content may constitute a criminal offence and carry severe penalties. Depending on the circumstances, such actions may fall under Article 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which covers the unauthorised dissemination of information about the movement of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as the transmission of information to a state carrying out armed aggression against Ukraine. Such offences can carry a sentence of up to 12 years in prison.
The SSU’s operational units systematically identify and investigate cases involving the dissemination of such footage online and take measures to bring those responsible to justice.
We urge Ukrainians to act responsibly: do not assist the enemy and do not put other people’s lives and safety at risk.
