SSU serves notice of suspicion in absentia to three russian prison guards who tortured Ukrainian prisoners of war
The SSU has collected evidence against another three russian accomplices who tortured Ukrainian prisoners of war in the temporarily occupied part of Donetsk region.
They are three residents of the region: Andriy Kononenko, Dmitry Andreyev and Artem Karyanov, who joined the occupation ‘directorate for the execution of sentences in the DNR’ at the beginning of the full-scale war.
The individuals were appointed as guards of the russian torture chamber, which the enemy set up in the seized penal colony No. 27 in Horlivka.
They organized so-called ‘admissions’ in the prisons, when Ukrainian prisoners were almost beaten to death with special PR-73 batons during the first day of their imprisonment.
According to the SSU Military Counterintelligence, in this way the ruscists tried to immediately break the victims psychologically and ‘beat’ them into agreeing to cooperate with russia.
In case of refusal to cooperate, the torturers put the prisoners in punishment cells or overcrowded cells, where they were forced to stand for long periods of time, without food or water.
Another type of torture used by the perpetrators was imitation of a shooting with a firearm – the victims were placed against a wall and a shot was fired next to them.
Based on the evidence, SSU investigators notified Andreev, Karyanov and Kononenko of suspicion in absentia under Articles 28.2, 438.1 of the CCU (war crimes, committed by a group, upon prior conspiracy).
As the torturers are in the temporarily occupied part of Donetsk region, the efforts to find and bring them to justice are ongoing.
The investigation was carried out under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
