SSU investigates ‘kadyrovite’ who tortured defenseless woman in Luhansk region
The SSU has identified another russian war criminal involved in torture of Ukrainian civilians.
This is Magomed Uzdorbiyev, a militant of the special rapid response unit of the russian guard Akhmat.
At the beginning of the full-scale war, his unit took part in the capture of the village of Makiivka, Svatovo district, Luhansk oblast.
To establish the occupation regime, the ruscists carried out so-called ‘mopping-up operations’, which were accompanied by abduction of local residents and looting of private property.
On 12 April 2022, a group of ‘kadyrovites’, including Uzdorbiyev, broke into the house of the local community elder.
After they found patriotic pro-Ukrainian photos on her computer, they tied the woman up and took her to a torture chamber in a seized gymnasium in the community.
There, Uzdorbiyev and his accomplices tortured the victim with electric shocks and beat her with a metal pipe. Then the ruscists kept the woman handcuffed to a radiator for several hours.
During the torture, ‘kadyrovites’ demanded from her the addresses of the families of Ukrainian defenders.
The perpetrator was also forcing the victim to give information on places where she had hidden the Ukrainian flags she had taken from the gymnasium during the seizure of the village.
Late in the evening, the occupiers let the woman go home to collect information for them within two days under the threat of murder.
However, the victim managed to secretly escape from the village to Ukraine-controlled territory, without providing the occupiers with any information on Ukrainian soldiers or their families.
A forensic medical examination confirmed that the victim had suffered severe bodily injuries as a result of torture.
Based on the evidence obtained, SSU investigators notified Uzdorbiyev of suspicion under Articles 28.1, 438.1 of the CCU (cruel treatment of civilians and other violations of laws and customs of war, committed by a group, upon prior conspiracy).
Efforts are underway to bring the war criminal to justice.
The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Donetsk and Luhansk regions under the procedural supervision of Luhansk Region Prosecutor’s Office.
