SSU serves in absentia notice of suspicion to russian brigade commander who ordered to attack Ukrainian defenders with banned chemical weapons
The Security Service of Ukraine has documented war crimes of another russian serviceman involved in massive use of banned chemical weapons against Ukraine’s Defence Forces.
This is colonel Roman Shkrob, the commander of the 123rd motorized rifle brigade of the Southern military district of the aggressor state.
According to the investigation, on 20 December 2023 Shkrob ordered his subordinates to use K-51 and RG-Vo gas grenades against Ukrainian defenders in Donetsk oblast.
Using chemical weapons, the enemy tried to break through the defences of Ukrainian troops during the battle near Spirne village.
With the grenades with a chemical charge, including tear gas, the ruscists hoped to force Ukrainian soldiers to leave the defensive shelters during the advance of the russian assault groups.
Based on the evidence collected, SSU investigators served Shkrob a notice of suspicion in absentia under Articles 28.1, 438.1 of the CCU (war crime, committed upon prior conspiracy, by a group).
Efforts to find and prosecute the brigade commander are underway.
In December 2024, the SSU served a notice of suspicion in absentia to russian general Igor Kirillov, chief of the radiation, chemical and biological defence troops of the russian armed forces.
The investigation was carried out under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
