SSU declares russian prison paramedic ‘dr. evil’ suspect in absentia for torturing Ukrainian PoWs
The Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police have collected evidence against another ruscist involved in the mass torture of Ukrainian prisoners of war.
The perpetrator is Illya Sorokin, a paramedic at medical unit of the correctional colony No. 10 of the penitentiary service of the republic of mordovia, russia.
The investigation established that he tortured wounded Ukrainian servicemen held in the prison. Sorokin was nicknamed ‘doctor evil’ by the prisoners for his cruel torture of them.
It has been documented that, under the guise of conducting a ‘medical examination’, the russian used a stun gun on the prisoners, causing them to lose consciousness or suffer temporary paralysis of parts of their bodies.
The paramedic also deliberately left wounded soldiers held in the jail without painkillers or bandages.
Based on the evidence, Security Service investigators notified Sorokin in absentia of suspicion under Article 438.1 of the CCU (war crimes, cruel treatment of prisoners of war).
The torturer is hiding in russia; efforts to bring him to justice are underway.
The investigation was carried out under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office and with the assistance of the Criminal Investigation Department of the National Police of Ukraine.
