SSU thwarts terrorist attack in downtown Rivne
The Security Service prevented a new attempt by ruscists to carry out a terrorist attack in Rivne.
Due to its proactive approach, the SSU detained the enemy agent red-handed – when he planted an improvised explosive device near a coffee shop in the central park and then tried to flee the scene.
As has been established by the investigation, russia’s orders were carried out by a drug-addict from Zhytomyr. The man was spotted by the russian intelligence while looking for money on Telegram.
The occupiers then deployed the recruited asset to Rivne. There, he settled in a rented apartment, where he made an improvised explosive device.
The perpetrator disguised the IED in a pot and equipped it with nuts and shrapnel to increase destructive power.
After planting the IED, the occupiers planned to remotely detonate it by calling a mobile phone that was attached to the bomb.
The suspect wore a military uniform when he was heading to the target site.
A smartphone with evidence of working for the enemy was seized from him during the search.
SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion under the Articles of the CCU:
- 14.1, 27.5, 258.2 (aiding in the preparation of a terrorist act committed by a group, upon prior conspiracy);
- 263-1.2 (illegal manufacture of explosives or explosive devices).
The suspect is in custody and faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Rivne region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
