The SSU has prevented a terrorist attack in a college in Cherkasy region. In an operation, SSU officers identified two individuals who threatened to carry out a mass shooting of students. Guns were seized from the attackers.

The culprits disseminated information about preparing a terrorist attack through the Vkontakte social network, banned in Ukraine.

The investigation established that two students of a local college were posting photos and videos on the Internet about planning a mass shooting of their groupmates.

On social media, the attackers also urged others to join their criminal group to commit physical violence against their peers.

During searches of the suspects’ homes, the law enforcement seized:

• two pistols,
• computer equipment and communication devices with evidence of illegal activity.

The SSU opened criminal proceeding under Article 14.1 and Article 258.1 (terrorist act) of the Criminal code of Ukraine. Investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the offence and bring the involved to justice.

Cyber Security and Investigation Units of the SSU Cherkasy Office carried out the operation under the supervision of Cherkasy Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
