SSU prevents sale of assault rifles and grenades in downtown Vinnytsia (video)

The SSU continues to counter organized crime that poses a threat to Ukraine’s state security. In a large-scale special operation in Vinnytsia region, the SSU dismantled a criminal group that sold weapons and ammunition.

The items seized from the group include Kalashnikov rifles with loaded magazines and grenades.

The SSU detained the leaders of the armed group in an attempt to sell an arsenal of weapons.

According to the investigation, the gang consisted of several members including individuals previously convicted for serious crimes. The group was supplying firearms and ammunition to other criminals.

The SSU documented several episodes of their illegal activity.

The searches resulted in the seizure of:

  • 2 Kalashnikov assault rifles (AKS-74 and AKMS) with four loaded magazines;
  • 3 grenades (F-1 and RGN);
  • 8 pistols (TT, Browning, PM and Nagant);
  • 300 rounds of ammunition for firearms;
  • communication devices;
  • proceeds of crime.

The seized items were sent for forensic examination.

The investigators have notified the detainees of suspicion of crimes under Article 263.1 (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition and explosives) and Article 28.2 (commission of a crime by a group of persons) of the CCU.

The court has chosen detention as a measure of restraint.

The investigation is underway to establish all the circumstances of illegal activities, including the source of weapons and ammunition.

The SSU Office in Vinnytsia region carried out the operation together with the National Police under the supervision of Vinnytsia Region Prosecutor’s Office.
