SSU detains FSB’s agent who spied on Defence Forces on Ukraine’s northern border with russia
During counter-sabotage activities in Sumy region, the SSU apprehended another agent of russia’s FSB.
The enemy accomplice was collecting information, taking photos and videos of Ukraine’s Defence Forces facilities in the border areas. To gather the intelligence, he drove his car around the region.
The spy sent the collected data to the enemy using one of the messenger apps.
The SSU also documented how the suspect secretly travelled to russia to smuggle contraband and meet with representatives of the aggressor state.
According to the investigation, the russian asset is a resident of Shostka district and came to the FSB’s attention because of his ties to criminals in russia.
The man had been recruited before the full-scale aggression, and after 24 February 2022 continued cooperation with the occupiers.
The SSU detained the offender on his attempt to pass intelligence about Ukrainian defenders.
During the searches of the suspect’s home and car, the SSU found mobile phones with evidence of his communication with the aggressor.
The detained individual was served a notice of suspicion under two Articles of the CCU:
- 111.2 (high treason committed under martial law);
- 201.2 (smuggling).
The suspect is in custody, facing life imprisonment.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Sumy region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
