SSU detains FSB agent while attempting to set up a tripwire with F-1 grenade in Kharkiv city park

The SSU Military Counterintelligence has thwarted another attempt by the ruscists to carry out a terrorist attack in Kharkiv. An FSB agent was detained 'red-handed' while he was setting up a tripwire with a live F-1 grenade in one of the city parks.

According to the investigation, the suspect obtained the coordinates of a weapons cache from the occupiers as part of the terror plot, from which he retrieved the munition. Following this, he purchased invisible nylon thread at a market to attach it to the grenade's fuse.

The enemy planned to disseminate panic among the city's population by detonating an explosive device in a crowded place.

SSU officers exposed the criminal intentions in advance and detained the terrorist late at night at the site of the planned explosion.

According to the investigation, the 62-year-old local suspect was carrying out russia's assignment. He was recruited by the occupiers via his wife, who lives in moscow and works for the russian intelligence.

It has been documented that after installing the booby trap, the agent's next FSB assignment was to construct an IED using plastic explosive and liquid explosive.

He was intended to place the finished bomb in downtown Kharkiv, enabling russian special services to remotely detonate it during rush hour.

During searches at detainee’s home, a feature phone used for the detonation mechanism, a radio, a smartphone, and a tablet with evidence of his contacts with the enemy were seized.

SSU investigators have served the agent with a notice of suspicion under the following Articles of the CCU:

  • 111.2 (high treason, committed under martial law);
  • 14.1, 258.2 (preparation for committing a terrorist act by a group of persons by prior conspiracy).

The enemy accomplice is in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kharkiv region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
