SSU detains FSB agent leaking Defence Forces locations in Odesa to enemy
The Security Service of Ukraine has exposed and detained an agent of russia’s federal security service who was gathering data on the deployment locations of the Defence Forces in Odesa and surrounding areas.
The investigation revealed that the perpetrator, a local resident, was spotted by the FSB after his posts on Telegram channels supporting the kremlin regime and russian armed groupings.
It has been documented that the agent was tracking the locations of Defence Forces bases, which the ruscists intended to target with missile and drone strikes.
The aggressor state was particularly interested in the coordinates of the Armed Forces of Ukraine’s logistics depots and the air defence firing positions in southern Ukraine.
To conduct surveillance and gather data on military facilities, the traitor drove around the area. He reported the collected data to his handler in russia via a messaging app before deleting the texts.
To provoke panic among the local population and destabilise the socio-political situation in the city and region, the suspect asked his handler to provide him with firearms.
He also sent to the russian operative the details of a local councillor and a National Guard serviceman whom he knew personally as potential assassination targets.
The SSU uncovered the plot early and detained the agent. During searches, three smartphones containing evidence of his work for the FSB were seized.
SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion under the Articles of the CCU:
- 111.2 (high treason, committed under martial law);
- 110.1 and 110.2 (violation of Ukraine’s territorial integrity and inviolability);
- 109.2, 109.3 (public calls for the forceful change or overthrow of the constitutional order, or the seizure of state power; as well as the dissemination of materials containing such calls).
- 436-2 (justifying, recognising as lawful or denying russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine and glorifying its participants).
The suspect is in custody without bail and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
