In Kharkiv region, the Security Service of Ukraine has detained another agent of russian military intelligence (‘the GRU’). The perpetrator provided the occupiers with coordinates for storming the positions of the Defence Forces in Kupiansk sector.

The investigation established that the enemy’s task was carried out by a Kharkiv IT specialist who already had a criminal record for collaborating with the ruscists at the beginning of the full-scale war.

At that time, the man lived in Kupiansk district and, during its occupation in the summer of 2022, joined russia’s occupation administration. There, he set up and administered the computer network of the sham institution.

After the liberation of the area, the collaborator moved to Kharkiv, hoping to hide from justice.

In 2022, the SSU and the National Police detained the suspect, despite his attempts to lay low. However, the court sentenced him to a punishment that does not involve imprisonment.

In the autumn of this year, the aggressor remotely re-established contact with him and instructed to track the positions of Ukrainian troops fighting for Kupiansk.

To carry out this task, the agent drove around the area near the front line, covertly recorded the locations of the Defence Forces and passed them on to the GRU.

The traitor used the cover story of ‘visiting relatives’ who lived in the frontline territory.

The SSU Counterintelligence uncovered and documented the crimes of the repeat offender and detained him at the final stage of the special operation.

During a search of the suspect’s flat and his relatives’ country house, a smartphone with evidence of his work for russia, russian uniforms, and a handmade flag of russia were seized.

SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The suspect is in custody without bai and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kharkiv region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
