SSU detains GRU agent guiding enemy strikes on Dnipropetrovsk region

The SSU Counterintelligence had detained another agent of the russian military intelligence (‘the GRU’) in the Dnipropetrovsk region. The perpetrator guided russian artillery and drone strikes on Nikopol.

According to the investigation, the spotter is a local evader recruited by the enemy who had fled the Ukrainian Armed Forces training center before taking the oath.

While hiding at his home, the suspect began looking for ‘easy money’ on Telegram channels. There, a russian intelligence officer approached him and offered to cooperate.

Lured by the promise of quick payments, the agent began tracking the Defence Forces’ bases in the town near the front line.

Among the enemy’s priority ‘targets’ were reserve command posts and combat positions of Ukrainian air defence units protecting the airspace over the Dnipropetrovsk region.

The SSU documented that the traitor scouted the area in order to secretly photograph and mark on Google Maps locations that he believed were used by Ukrainian defenders.

The SSU Counterintelligence identified the suspect at the early stage of his espionage activities and detained him.

Simultaneously, action was taken to secure Ukrainian troops’ deployment sites and movement routes.

During the search, a mobile phone containing evidence of the suspect’s work for russian military intelligence was seized.

SSU investigators have notified the detainee of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The suspect is in custody without bail and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in the Vinnytsia region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
