SSU detains GRU agent who, posing as taxi driver, guided russian strikes at Kramatorsk

The Security Service’s Counterintelligence Department has detained yet another agent of russia’s military intelligence (‘the GRU’) in the Donetsk region. He turned out to be a taxi driver from Kramatorsk who had been recruited by the enemy.

The aggressor state recruited the asset to target sites where Ukrainian troops and military equipment were concentrated.

The traitor was also tasked with coordinating a series of strikes on key electricity substations to cut off power to the frontline town and leave it without heating or water supply.

As the investigation revealed, the perpetrator drove around Kramatorsk in his car under the guise of working as a taxi driver and recorded the locations of ‘targeted’ sites.

At the same time, he also covertly extracted information from customers, posing as a pro-Ukrainian sympathiser.

The SSU detained the agent at his home whilst he was preparing to send a new portion of coordinates to the enemy.

The individual in question came to the attention of the russian intelligence through his anti-Ukrainian comments in Telegram chats.

In one such chat, a GRU ‘liaison’ approached him and offered him to work for the russian military intelligence network.

During the searches of the suspect’s premises, computer equipment and a smartphone containing evidence of his work for the enemy were seized.

SSU investigators have notified the detainee of his status as a suspect under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The suspect is in custody without bail and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions under the procedural supervision of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
