SSU detains russian agent who tried to blow up railway in Dnipropetrovsk region to disrupt Ukraine’s counteroffensive (video)
As a result of a multi-stage special operation in the frontline areas of Dnipropetrovsk region, the SSU Counterintelligence exposed another agent of the main directorate of the general staff of russia’s armed forces (known as ‘the GRU’).
The spy is an employee of a local Ukrzaliznytsia [Ukrainian Railways] station, recruited earlier this year by a GRU officer.
The traitor collected information on railway routes and unloading sites for foreign-made military equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine involved in counteroffensive operations.
The enemy asset also recorded coordinates of railway stations and bridges through which Ukrainian heavy weapons and ammunition of are transported for deployment.
To carry out the aggressor’s assignments, he thoroughly filmed the targets with his mobile phone camera during trips by train.
The occupiers needed the intelligence to carry out air strikes on the targets in the area.
The invaders were considering an option of ‘sabotage’ on the Ukrainian railway to be carried out by this agent.
In this way, the aggressor intended to disrupt the supply of fuel, weapons and ammunition to the Ukrainian troops on the southeastern front.
However, the SSU identified the traitor, documented his criminal actions and detained him.
During the search at the suspect’s home, the SSU found:
- F-1 and RGD-5 grenades;
- a carbine;
- a large number of ammunition for small arms;
- smoke grenades.
Based on the collected evidence, SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion under two Articles of the CCU:
- 111.2 (high treason committed under martial law);
- 263.1 (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives).
The suspect is in custody, facing life imprisonment.
The SSU Office in Dnipropetrovsk region carried out the operation with the assistance of the Office of the Director for Economic and Information Security of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia and the procedural guidance of Dnipropetrovsk Region Prosecutor’s Office.
