SSU detains enemy agent who helped ruscists capture Severodonetsk and fled to Zakarpattia
As a result of a multi-stage special operation in several regions of Ukraine, the SSU Counterintelligence detained an FSB agent who provided the aggressor with information on locations of Ukrainian defenders during the battle for Severodonetsk in 2022.
The traitor passed intelligence to occupiers on fortifications, firing positions and checkpoints of Ukrainian troops.
He also tried to identify and pass to ruscists precise coordinates of combat positions of Ukrainian artillery, including Grad multiple rocket launchers.
The agent sent the data, e.g. marks on electronic maps, to the FSB through a messenger app.
The aggressor needed the intelligence to carry out targeted air strikes on Ukrainian military and to prepare combat operations to capture Severodonetsk.
During intense warfare in the city, the enemy asset decided to stay away from the front line and moved to Dnipro.
There, the man hoped to ‘sit out’ and later return to Luhansk oblast, where he was promised a ‘position’ in the ‘LNR’s ministry of state security’, which is controlled by russian intelligence services.
To get the promised ‘guarantees’ in the temporarily occupied part of Ukraine, the agent unsuccessfully tried to contact his russian handler.
After unsuccessful attempts, the enemy accomplice moved to Zakarpattia. There, he hoped to ‘lay low’ and evade justice for his crimes against Ukraine.
However, the SSU Counterintelligence thwarted the traitor’s plans - his criminal actions and movements were documented in stages and he was apprehended.
According to the investigation, the offender is a native of Luhansk, a former student of one of the higher educational institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
Before russia’s full-scale invasion, he moved to Severodonetsk and was recruited remotely by the FSB.
During the searches, the SSU found the mobile phone that the informant used to communicate with the aggressor.
SSU investigators have served the detained individual a notice of suspicion of high treason (Article 111.1 of the CCU).
The court chose custody without bail as a measure of restraint for the suspect, who is facing up to 15 years in prison.
The operation was carried out under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
