SSU detains enemy agent trying to set up video traps on Dnipro highways to spy on AFU convoys

The SSU Counterintelligence has detained another enemy agent in Dnipropetrovsk region. The perpetrator was tracking the number and types of military equipment of Ukraine’s Armed Forces moving towards the front line.

To make his task easier and collect intelligence covertly, the man sought an abandoned garage near one of the main highways on the city’s outskirts, planning to set up an observation post there.

According to the investigation, russia’s task was carried out by a shift supervisor of a local factory, who had been recruited by the russian intelligence. He came to the enemy’s attention while looking for easy money on Telegram.

After recruitment, the agent first collected the coordinates of checkpoints and key bridges used by Ukrainian armoured vehicles to cross the Dnipro River.

To do this, he travelled by public transport around the city and its suburbs, covertly recording the geolocations of sites that the enemy planned to strike.

He then received instructions from his russian handler to set up a mini-camera to stream online the view on the interregional highway.

With the help of the video device, the ruscists hoped to track the flow of military convoys and their strength.

The SSU thwarted the aggressor’s plans, identified the agent at an early stage, and detained him.

A smartphone with an anonymous chat in a messenger was seized from the suspect during the search. He used it to communicate with his handler.

Based on the evidence collected, SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The suspect is in custody without bail and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Dnipropetrovsk region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
