SSU detains russian agent who worked for FSB to get apartment in Crimea

The SSU Counterintelligence exposed a deep-cover FSB agent in Odesa.

He is a former military officer who had been in contact with the russian intelligence since 2010 and in 2020 began to actively collect information on combat training of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the southern region.

The traitor paid ‘special attention’ to the international military drills in the Black Sea and training of the AFU’s ground units at training ranges, including combat crews with Javelin anti-tank missile systems.

The agent also tried to track the flow of military and dual-use goods coming into Ukraine through the seaports of Odesa, Mariupol, Chornomorsk, Izmail, and Skadovsk.

The SSU documented the facts of the perpetrator’s reconnaissance and sabotage activities and identified his russian supervisors.

At the final stage of the special operation, the SSU detained the aggressor’s accomplice.

According to the investigation, the traitor is a local resident who graduated from Kostroma Higher Command School in 1990 as a chemist scout.

Then, until the mid-90s, he served at the headquarters of Odesa Military District and quitted in a captain’s rank.

After that, the retired officer went into business and opened a sports store in downtown Odesa.

He was also engaged in smuggling goods from russia. Then, the man came to the attention of the russian special services.

During his stay in russia, the individual was recruited by an officer of the FSB office in Kursk region.

Before the full-scale invasion, this officer instructed the agent to gather intelligence for the aggressor state.

Secure electronic channels were used for communication. The agent also passed intelligence ‘reports’ during personal meetings in russia.

In return for performing enemy assignments, the traitor hoped to receive assistance from the occupiers in alienating for him real estate property worth USD 200,000 in the temporarily occupied Crimea.

Based on the collected evidence, SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion under the Article 111.1 of the CCU (high treason).

Court is to decide on custody as a measure of restraint.

The investigation is ongoing to bring to justice all those involved in the crime.

The SSU Office in Odesa region carried out the special operation under the coordination of the SSU Counterintelligence Department and the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office.
