SSU detains GRU agent who adjusted enemy air strikes on Sloviansk and wanted to flee to russia
The Security Service of Ukraine has apprehended another agent of russian military intelligence (‘the GRU’) in Donetsk region. He adjusted the aggressor’s missile and bomb attacks on the frontline city of Sloviansk and its adjacent areas.
The enemy’s priority targets were the fortifications and firing positions of the Ukrainian artillery which fires at russian assault groups on Siversk direction.
To reconnoiter the coordinates for strikes, the GRU recruited a 49-year-old local unemployed man who supported ruscism and wanted to move to russia.
The agent walked around the area and tracked the locations of the Defence Forces, recording their geolocations on Google maps.
Then, he used a messenger app to transmit the data to his old friend, a militant of the russian occupation troops who has been working for the GRU since 2014.
In case of fulfilling the tasks, the occupiers promised to extract the asset to russia.
However, the SSU thwarted these plans and detained the traitor at his home. Simultaneously, action was taken to protect the positions of the Defence Forces.
A mobile phone with evidence of the suspect’s reconnaissance and sabotage activities for russia was seized.
SSU investigators served the detainee a notice of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).
The suspect is in custody without bail and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Vinnytsia Office under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
