SSU detains GRU agent who committed arsons in Chernihiv and planned murders of Ukrainian servicemen (video)
The SSU cyber units have apprehended another agent of russian military intelligence (‘the GRU’) in Chernihiv. The perpetrator adjusted enemy strikes and committed car arsons, which he considered as ‘test tasks’ and waited for an assignment to eliminate Ukrainian military servicemen.
According to the investigation, the enemy agent is a 45-year-old local unemployed man, an ideological supporter of ruscism. He came to the attention of the occupiers because of his pro-russian comments on Telegram.
First, on russian orders, he set fire to a military pickup truck and a transformer substation in Chernihiv.
After that, he was tasked with adjusting enemy strikes in the northern region. To do this, he rented apartments with panoramic views of defence and civilian facilities. The aggressor was most interested in the repair bases of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and medical facilities where wounded Ukrainian soldiers are treated.
Further, as the traitor confessed to the SSU, he told his russian handler that he was ready to physically eliminate Ukrainian defenders.
The agent planned to use improvised explosive devices or kamikaze drones to commit the assassinations.
However, the SSU prevented these intentions and detained the asset. Action was taken to protect the locations of the Defence Forces.
During the searches, the investigators seized a mobile phone and a computer used by the suspect to communicate with the GRU.
The SSU has now notified him of suspicion under two Articles of the CCU:
- 111.2 (high treason, committed under martial law);
- 114-2.2 (unauthorized dissemination of information on movement, transfer or location of the AFU, committed under martial law).
The suspect is in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
