SSU detains agent of russian special purpose unit preparing enemy breakthrough in Donetsk region
The SSU Counterintelligence has detained another enemy agent who spied on the Defence Forces in Donetsk oblast.
The perpetrator was reconnoitering the locations of Ukrainian military personnel and heavy weapons in Pokrovsk sector, an area of intensive warfare.
The russian intelligence was interested in the coordinates of our fortifications and artillery firing positions.
The occupiers needed the data to prepare new offensives and break through the Ukrainian defences.
To collect information, the agent walked in the target area and recorded the locations he needed, marking the coordinates on Google maps.
The SSU detained the suspect in his own home.
Action was taken to protect Ukrainian troops.
According to the investigation, the enemy accomplice is a resident of Myrnohrad, an employee of a private security company.
In April of this year, the man was recruited remotely by a special forces officer of the russian guard, who cooperates with russian military intelligence. The SSU has already established the recruiter’s identity.
The traitor came to the enemy’s attention as an active user of pro-russian Telegram channels, where he posted his anti-Ukrainian comments.
During the searches of the spy’s apartment, the SSU seized a mobile phone that he used to communicate with the aggressor.
Based on the evidence, SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).
The suspect is in custody and faces life imprisonment.
The operation was conducted by the SSU Office in Donetsk and Luhansk regions under the procedural supervision of Donetsk Region Prosecutor’s Office.
