SSU detains FSB agents who prepared terrorist attacks in Dnipro and Lviv region

The SSU Counterintelligence prevented terrorist attacks that were plotted in Dnipropetrovsk and Lviv regions on orders from russian special services.

As a result of pre-emptive action, two agents of russia’s federal security service have been apprehended. They were separately preparing explosions near local Territorial Recruitment Centers. Another perpetrator was detained for manufacturing IEDs and hiding them in caches.

The investigation established that the terrorists were to plant improvised explosive devices near the military facilities. After that, the russian special services then planned to remotely activate the bombs using phones.

The perpetrators got orders from russia after being recruited on Telegram channels advertising ‘easy money.’

They received geolocation coordinates of the caches from their handlers and picked up the IEDs. The Security Service detained the terrorists when one of them attempted to plant an explosive device at the site of the planned attack, while another agent was finishing equipping the IED.

In Dnipro, a 27-year-old local deserter was detained red-handed.

The SSU apprehended him near the potential target. An IED equipped with a phone with remote access for the occupiers was seized at the scene.

It should be noted that civilians noticed the man’s suspicious behaviour near the Territorial Recruitment Center. They immediately reported this to the law enforcement, as recommended by the SSU in its information campaign Burn the FSB-man.

In Lviv region, a 32-year-old native of Kryvyi Rih was detained after arriving in Stryi to carry out a double terrorist attack in the city.

The agent, acting on russian orders, planned to blow up a mobile post of a Territorial Recruitment Center and a parked service car.

A 30-year-old local resident who manufactured the explosive device for the terrorist attacks was also caught in hot pursuit.

SSU investigators have notified the two bombers of suspicion under three Articles of the CCU:

  • 111.2 (high treason, committed under martial law);
  • 258.2 (preparation of a terrorist attack by a group, upon prior conspiracy);
  • 263.1 (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosive substances).

The investigative actions are ongoing with regard to the third suspect.

The detainees are in custody without bail and face between 12 years and life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operations were carried out by the SSU Offices in Dnipropetrovsk and Lviv regions under the procedural supervision of Dnipro Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for the Eastern Region and Lviv Region Prosecutor’s Office.
