SSU detains FSB agents who spied on Odesa maritime guards posing as couple in love

The SSU has detained two members of an FSB agent network operating in Odesa and Dnipropetrovsk regions. The perpetrators adjusted russian missile and drone strikes on the military infrastructure of Ukraine’s Defence Forces.

On the instructions of the russian service, a 23-year-old Odesa resident and his 18-year-old fiancée were collecting information on the locations of the border guard squads of the maritime guard defending the city’s waters.

To obtain intelligence, the couple walked around the target area posing as two people in love and took pictures against the background of the targets.

Using the data from the photos, the traitor prepared a report for his handler from the FSB office for russia’s Eastern military district, who has already been identified by the SSU.

In case of receiving relevant intelligence, the occupiers planned to use it for air strikes on Ukrainian defenders.

However, the SSU thwarted the enemy’s plan and detained the spies ‘red-handed’ while they were reconnoitering a potential target.

The asset was also tasked with posting 100 provocative anti-mobilization leaflets and setting fire to a local power substation.

According to the investigation, the young man came to the attention of the aggressor state in May this year through anonymous chats in a Telegram channel where participants discussed mobilization evasion. After recruitment, he involved his girlfriend in the sabotage activity.

During the searches of the suspects’ homes, mobile phones with evidence of the crime were seized. The SSU also found a bank card with money from the FSB and a batch of anti-Ukrainian leaflets.

SSU investigators have served the enemy agent a notice of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The actions of his accomplice are classified under Article 114-2.2 of the CCU (unauthorized dissemination of information on transfer of weapons to Ukraine, movement or location of the AFU, if they can be identified on the ground).

The man in question is in custody. The court is to decide on a measure of restraint for the woman. The suspects face from 8 years in prison to life imprisonment.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Main Office in Kyiv and Kyiv region under the procedural supervision of Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.
