SSU detains agents who planned two terrorist attacks in Dnipropetrovsk region on russia’s order
The Security Service of Ukraine has foiled new terrorist attacks in Dnipropetrovsk region. As a result of the operation, the SSU detained two enemy agents who were tasked by their russian handlers to carry out at least two explosions in the city.
Their first target was a pickup truck of an AFU mobile air defense group. The terrorists were supposed to plant an improvised explosive device under the vehicle and detonate it by calling a phone attached to the bomb.
After this attack, the russian service planned another task for their assets – to prepare an explosion at the main entrance to a Territorial Recruitment Center in Nikopol district.
The SSU Counterintelligence uncovered and thwarted the aggressor’s plans. The two agents were detained when they equipped the IED and carried out additional reconnaissance near the first target – the pickup truck of a mobile firing team.
3 kg of explosives with a detonator, which the terrorists hid in a plastic canister having added metal nuts, were seized from the suspects during detention.
According to the investigation, the enemy accomplices are two local residents, one of whom is a repeat offender with a criminal record for theft.
Both men came to the attention of russian intelligence when they were looking for easy money on Telegram.
Based on the evidence, SSU investigators notified the detainees of suspicion under Articles 14.1, 258.2 (preparation to commit a terrorist act, upon prior conspiracy, by a group).
The suspects are in custody and face up to 12 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Dnipropetrovsk region under the procedural supervision of Dnipropetrovsk Specialized Defense Prosecutor’s Office of the Eastern Region.
