SSU detains FSB agent who tried to recruit spotters to adjust enemy strikes on Sumy region
The SSU Counterintelligence has detained another FSB agent who was preparing a new series of russian air attacks on Sumy oblast.
The woman’s main task was to collect the geolocations of and intelligence on local defence industry enterprises.
To do this, the perpetrator regularly travelled around the area and tried to elicit information from her acquaintances during seemingly everyday conversations.
She also tried to establish contacts with former and current employees of the local defence plants.
If the agent found ‘like-minded people’, she planned to involve them in her network of informants and offer them money from the FSB.
However, the SSU disrupted the enemy’s plans, documented the suspect’s criminal actions and detained her ‘red-handed’ when she was filming one of the targets.
According to the investigation, the enemy accomplice is a former nurse and an ideological supporter of ruscism. The woman kept in touch with her relatives who live in russia and support the armed aggression against Ukraine.
It was through her relatives that the FSB remotely recruited the asset and handled her. Her handler’s identity has been established by the SSU – he is a serving officer of one of the FSB’s regional offices.
An anonymous chat in a messenger app was used for communication.
During the search, the SSU seized her mobile phones with evidence of the crime.
SSU investigators have now served the detainee a notice of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).
The suspect is in custody and faces life imprisonment.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Sumy region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
