SSU detains russian GRU agent planning to connect ruscists to street CCTV cameras to adjust attacks on Zaporizhzhia

The SSU Counterintelligence has exposed yet another agent of russian military intelligence (‘the GRU’) in the Zaporizhzhia region. The perpetrator turned out to be an accountant at a local agricultural enterprise.

To guide the strikes, the woman intended to provide the russian intelligence operatives with remote access to CCTV cameras mounted on the front of her company’s building, 10 km from the front line.

As the investigation revealed, the company’s cameras were broadcasting footage of a road used by the Defence Forces to transport supplies to the front.

In this way, the russian intelligence hoped to track the movements of Ukrainian troops online and plan combined attacks against them.

The SSU Counterintelligence exposed the agent at an early stage and detained her in February 2026 at her workplace, whilst she was preparing to send the remote access passwords for the CCTV cameras to russia.

Over the next three months, the SSU carried out an operation to document the crimes of the agent’s ‘contact person’. This turned out to be her son, who has been living in an EU country for a long time and is working for the russian GRU.

It was through him that the ruscists recruited the woman and instructed her to find ways to direct strikes against Ukrainian troops.

It has been established that the accountant had full access to her company’s external surveillance cameras and offered the GRU to use them as ‘video traps’.

In addition, the agent walked in the area to identify and pass to the enemy the geolocations of Defence Forces units.

Communication devices and notes containing evidence of her espionage activities were seized during the searches.

SSU investigators have notified the detainee of suspicion under Articles 28.2 and 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed by a group of persons acting in concert under martial law).

The suspect is in custody without bail and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

SSU investigators also notified her son, ‘liaison’ with the GRU, of suspicion in absentia as he is hiding abroad.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Zaporizhzhia region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
