SSU detains enemy agent who attempted to blow up truck with valuable equipment for Odesa heating facility

The Security Service of Ukraine has prevented another terrorist attack in Odesa. As a result of pre-emptive measures, an enemy agent has been detained for trying to blow up a truck carrying high-value equipment for a local heating facility.

The investigation revealed that the perpetrator planted an improvised explosive device under a truck transporting the equipment to the energy facility.

The enemy asset then planned to remotely detonate the bomb by making calls to the primary and backup mobile phones attached to the bombs.

The SSU acted pre-emptively: the IED was deactivated, and the suspect was apprehended.

According to the investigation, the detainee is a resident of Chernivtsi who had been recruited by the russian intelligence on Telegram.

Following russia’s instructions, the woman travelled to Odesa, settled into a rented apartment, assembled the IED, and hid it in a metal canister.

She arrived at the site of the planned terrorist attack and, after planting the bomb, attempted to remotely detonate it.

Components for manufacturing an IED and other evidence of working for the aggressor state were seized during the search.

SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion under Articles 15.2 and 258.2 of the CCU (completed attempt to commit a terrorist act).

The suspect is in custody without to bail and faces up to 12 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Odesa Office jointly with the National Police under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.

The Security Service of Ukraine asks citizens to remain vigilant. If you are approached with dubious proposals, have seen suspicious objects or individuals, or have information about the activities of russian intelligence services, or about websites and social media pages they use for recruitment, please report this to the SSU:
