Russian agent detained: she collected intelligence to plot attacks against SSU
The SSU continues to counteract to intelligence and subversive activities of Russian special services against Ukraine. In an operation in Luhansk region, the SSU detained an agent of the so-called Ministry of State Security of LNR. She was collecting intelligence to carry out attacks using explosives against the SSU units in the East of Ukraine.
According to the investigation, the detainee is a local and was recruited in April 2021 by a Russian citizen, a representative of a reconnaissance unit of an IAF of the temporarily occupied territories. Tasked by her handler, the agent was gathering information on administrative buildings, vehicles of the SSU in Luhansk region as well as personal data of the employees.
For communication with supervisors, the spy used secure communication channels.
Due to a prompt response, the SSU was able to prevent attacks with the use of explosives against the SSU units engaged in the JFO.
The SSU investigators have notified the detainee of suspicion of treason. The court has chosen detention as a measure of restraint.
The SSU Office in Donetsk and Luhansk regions carried out the operation together with the SSU Internal Security Department under the supervision of Luhansk Region Prosecutor’s Office.
