SSU detains agent of russian military intelligence: she spied on Ukrainian defenders in Zhytomyr region
According to the investigation, the detainee is a resident of one of the villages in the region. An employee of an intelligence unit of russian armed forces ‘noticed’ the woman in social networks banned in Ukraine. There, she expressed an aggressive pro-russian position and disseminated anti-Ukrainian content. Russians recruited her and gave her the nickname Pobeda [victory].
After russia started its full-scale invasion of the northern regions of Zhytomyr region, the agent received detailed instructions from her supervisor on how to collect and transmit the data they need.
This was extremely important information for russian intelligence, as Ukrainian Armed Forces were moving through this village pushing the enemy out from the temporarily occupied territories.
In particular, the aggressor state was interested in:
- location of military facilities and weapons depots;
- units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, their strength, types of weapons, places of deployment and directions of movement;
- geolocation data on places of temporary stationing of Ukrainian military and local territorial defence.
On her own initiative, she also provided the aggressor with information on shelters and basements.
During the searches, the law enforcement found means of communication with her handlers from russian military intelligence. The detainee acknowledged the fact of collaboration with the enemy and testified about her illegal activities.
The SSU investigators notified the detained agent of suspicion of crime under Article 111.2 (treason) of the CCU.
She is facing from 15 years in prison to life in prison.
