SSU detains banker – FSB agent leaking Defence Forces personnel data to enemy

In Kyiv, the Security Service of Ukraine has detained another enemy agent. He turned out to be a 40-year-old employee of the information security department of one of the capital’s commercial banks, recruited by the FSB.

For the russian intelligence, the perpetrator collected personal data of the bank’s clients among the Defence Forces and volunteers supporting the AFU. The occupiers could have used this data to prepare terrorist attacks, information sabotage, and recruitment operations against Ukrainian defenders.

The SSU identified the traitor at an early stage, documented his intelligence gathering, and detained him.

Four smartphones, removable SIM cards, and three laptops on which he stored personal data of potential ‘targets’ were seized from him during the search.

The agent’s contacts with russia’s federal security service were also found on the seized devices.

According to the investigation, the bank employee came to the FSB’s attention because of his activity on a banned social network.

After the recruitment, he received test tasks from his russian handler to conduct reconnaissance near the bases of the Defence Forces in Kyiv.

To this end, the banker spent his weekends walking around the area and photographing buildings that he believed could be used by Ukrainian defenders.

He was then tasked with gathering information on the financial institution’s ‘clients’ among the military and volunteers who had opened accounts to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

He was also supposed to give the occupiers the coordinates of the backup data centre where the bank’s database is stored.

SSU investigators have notified the detainee of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The suspect is in custody without bail and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
