SSU detains blogger of kremlin’s mouthpiece russia today, who came to Ukraine and spread fake news in EU about war

In Chernihiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions, the SSU exposed four enemy Internet agitators.

One of the detainees is a foreign blogger who worked for the banned russian TV channel russia today and spread kremlin propaganda in the EU member-states.

To do this, he used his own YouTube and Telegram channels, reaching out to the total audience of over half a million subscribers.

In his posts and videos, the blogger supported russia’s armed aggression and justified the occupiers’ war crimes against Ukraine’s civilian population and critical infrastructure.

The agitator also disseminated disinformation on the situation on the frontline and called on the EU states to limit assistance to our country.

According to the investigation, the enemy accomplice is a citizen of a European country, who prepared propaganda material for the russian RT.

Later, the ‘journalist’ arrived to Ukraine and settled in Chernihiv region. After the full-scale invasion started, he began to perform ‘editorial assignments’ of the kremlin’s mouthpiece to prepare and produce commissioned stories on the war in Ukraine.

The blogger involved his partner in the unlawful activity – the woman helped him to ‘edit’ fake news for the foreign Internet audience.

The SSU documented the facts of information and subversive activity and notified the blogger and his ‘assistant’ of suspicion of crime under Article 436-2.3 of the CCU (justifying, recognizing as lawful, denying russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, glorifying its participants, committed by a group of persons).

Another two enemy propagandists were exposed in Dnipropetrovsk region. One of them is a resident of Pokrov, who spread through social networks calls to support the occupiers.

For this, in case the region was captured, the woman hoped to receive a russian passport.

The other pro-russian agitator is a resident of Novomoskovsk, who called to seize power and discredited Ukrainian authorities.

During the searches at the suspects’ homes, the SSU found computer equipment and mobile phones with evidence of unlawful activities.

The enemy accomplice from Pokrov was notified of suspicion of collaboration (Article 111-1 of the CCU), and her ‘colleague’ – of actions aimed at forceful change or overthrow of the constitutional order or seizure of state power (Article 109 of the CCU).

Pre-trial investigations are underway.

The SSU Offices in Chernihiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions exposed the offenders under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office.
