SSU detains recidivist militant who spied on Ukrainian air defence and prepared for extraction to Luhansk
In Dnipro, the SSU Counterintelligence detained a former militant of the terrorist organization ‘LNR’ who worked for the FSB.
On the instructions of the russian service, the perpetrator tried to identify locations of Ukrainian air defence systems.
The agent was also trying to record the results of the aggressor’s missile strikes on military installations in the city.
The investigation identified that the occupiers had used his ‘information’ to target a facility in Dnipro during the air attack on 29 December 2023.
For reconnaissance and sabotage against Ukraine, the enemy asset received money to his bank card from the invaders.
In case of successful completion of all the assignments, the FSB promised its informant to extract him to the temporarily occupied part of Luhansk oblast.
However, the SSU did not let him flee from justice and detained the suspect at his home.
According to the investigation, the detainee is a native of Luhansk region with a criminal record for participating in illegal armed groups of the so-called ‘luhansk people’s republic’.
He settled in Dnipro before russia’s full-scale invasion and began to cooperate with the FSB in August 2023.
He communicated with them remotely, through a ‘liaison’. The latter is a militant of russian occupation groupings in the temporarily occupied part of eastern Ukraine.
To collect intelligence, the enemy agent walked in the target areas and covertly took photos and videos of facilities using his phone camera.
During the search of the suspect’s apartment, the SSU found a smartphone and a bank card used in the crime.
Based on the evidence, SSU investigators served him a notice of suspicion under Article 111-1.7 of the CCU (collaboration). The suspect is in custody, facing 15 years in prison.
The investigation was carried out by the SSU Office in Donetsk and Luhansk regions under the procedural supervision of Luhansk Region Prosecutor’s Office.
