SSU detains deserter who, on russia’s orders, returned to his unit to spy

With the assistance of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine has exposed yet another enemy informant within the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He is a conscript from the Poltava region who, acting on russia’s orders, directed enemy fire at his own assault regiment and adjacent Defence Forces units.

The russian intelligence was primarily interested in the coordinates of large concentrations of Armed Forces personnel and equipment, as well as the training grounds where the perpetrator had undergone combat training.

According to the SSU’s cyber units, the asset was recruited by the enemy after he went AWOL from his military unit and began seeking ‘easy’ money on Telegram.

After the recruitment, he was instructed to return to his unit to gather intelligence to guide russian strikes at targets.

The agent leaked the geolocation of his battalion’s temporary deployment point to the russians and left the military unit under the pretext of a hospital visit.

Instead of visiting the medical facility, he went into hiding at his home in Kremenchuk.

The SSU took action to protect the Defence Forces’ locations in the area under enemy reconnaissance and detained the suspect.

A smartphone was found in his possession during searches; he had used it to coordinate his actions with his russian handler. To maintain secrecy, the traitor used an anonymous chat app and regularly deleted his texting.

SSU investigators have notified the detainee of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The enemy accomplice is in custody without bail and faces life imprisonment and the confiscation of his property.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Offices in the Kharkiv and Poltava regions under the procedural supervision of the Poltava Specialised Defence Prosecutor’s Office of the Central Region.
