SSU detains former police officer and FSB agent for adjusting enemy strikes on Sumy region border areas
The Security Service of Ukraine has detained another FSB agent in Sumy region. The suspect was gathering coordinates to facilitate russian air strikes on border areas.
The investigation established that the suspect was a former head of the investigative department of a disbanded police unit in Shostka district who had been recruited by the FSB to carry out the occupiers' assignments.
The suspect came to the attention of the russian intelligence service due to his long-standing personal ties with a russian serviceman and his pro-kremlin views.
According to the investigation, in 2025, an officer of the FSB for Bryansk region contacted and recruited the suspect to collect intelligence for russian strikes against Ukrainian Defence Forces units deployed along the northeastern border.
Following the briefing, the agent began monitoring the locations of Ukrainian troops, focusing primarily on fortified area, firing positions and checkpoints.
To collect intelligence, he surveyed the border area and covertly elicited the information he sought from acquaintances.
The suspect used a messaging app to pass on the information he had gathered to a russian intelligence officer to prepare strikes on the region using guided bombs and one-way attack drones.
The SSU detained the suspect while he was carrying out another enemy assignment to facilitate a strike on the border region. A smartphone containing evidence of his collaboration with the aggressor was seized from him.
SSU investigators have notified the detainee of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason committed during martial law).
The suspect is in custody without bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out by the SSU officers in Sumy region under the procedural supervision of the regional prosecutor’s office.
