SSU detains russian citizen who posed as volunteer to join Defense Forces and spy for FSB
The Security Service, with the assistance of the Minister of Defense and the AFU Commander-in-Chief, has uncovered a new FSB infiltration into the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
As a result of a special operation in Lviv, a russian citizen was detained who, having volunteered for one of the combat units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, began working for russia’s special services.
One of his tasks was to adjust russian missile strikes on Lviv region.
To do this, he passed the coordinates of his unit’s temporary base and of adjacent military units to russia’s federal security service.
The traitor also sent to the enemy the geolocations of armored convoys, transit depots, and vehicle fleets in the border areas.
It has been established that the spy had maintained contact with his handler through anonymous chat rooms. To conceal this communication, the mole used three smartphones with different operators, including those from the EU.
The Security Service of Ukraine identified the infiltrator, documented the crime and detained him when he was on his way to an ATM to check if he received a payment from russia.
The investigation revealed that to recruit the agent the FSB used his brother in russia.
SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion.
The suspect is in custody.
The special operation was carried out under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
