SSU detains counterfeit gang selling USD 240,000 in fake notes (video)
The SSU cracked down on selling of counterfeit foreign currency. During a special operation in Kyiv, two organizers of a group of counterfeiters were detained.
The offenders attempted to sell USD 240,000 in fake notes. Tests found the notes to be of high quality and virtually undetectable.
Counterfeit notes were offered for sale at 50 to 60 per cent of their face value in separate tranches.
Following the SBU cyber experts’ investigation, the offenders received suspicion notices of selling counterfeit foreign currency. A type of detention is to be chosen.
Urgent investigative actions are underway to establish all the circumstances of the illegal activity and prosecute all involved individuals.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Cybersecurity Department together with investigators of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Kyiv and under the supervision of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office.
