SSU detains and investigates FSB agent for preparing terrorist attack in downtown Lviv

The Security Service of Ukraine has completed its investigation and sent an indictment to court against an FSB agent who was preparing a terrorist attack in Lviv in July this year.

The perpetrator was transporting explosives to carry out a terrorist attack plotted by the russian intelligence services against Ukrainian law enforcement officers.

The Security Service uncovered the enemy’s plan at an early stage and detained the agent as he was travelling to Lviv with an explosive device.

After that, the SSU established the suspect’s identity and documented the crime of his handler from russia.

The agent of russian intelligence turned out to be a 41-year-old repeat offender from Pustomyty, Lviv region, who had previously served time for murder, drug crimes, and fraud.

After serving his sentence, he came to the enemy’s attention while looking for easy money on Telegram. For a promise of quick payment, he agreed to carry out the order of russia’s federal security service to prepare a terrorist attack near an administrative building of Ukrainian law enforcement agencies.

The agent first arrived in Khmelnytskyi, where, using coordinates provided by the russian service, he came to a cache and retrieved the improvised explosive device from it.

After that, the man took a taxi with the bomb to the local bus station, from where he planned to travel to Lviv. There, he was to receive further instructions from the russian intelligence.

The SSU detained the enemy accomplice as he was boarding a bus. At the scene, the IED and the smartphone, which he used to contact his handler, were seized.

Based on the SSU’s investigation, the detainee has been charged under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The suspect is in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operation and investigation were carried out by the SSU Office in Khmelnytskyi region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
