SSU detains FSB informant who turned his flat into ‘observation post’ to spy on AFU in Donetsk region
The SSU Counterintelligence foiled another russia’s attempt to hinder Ukraine’s counteroffensive on the eastern front.
As a result of a special operation in Donetsk oblast, the SSU detained an informant of the FSB who provided the enemy with intelligence on routes, number and specifications of Ukrainian military equipment moving to Kramatorsk.
The spy was particularly focused on convoys of heavy and special equipment, e.g. self-propelled artillery pieces, trucks with ammunition and fuel trucks involved in Ukraine’s counteroffensive.
To collect information, the agent took up a ‘position’ on the balcony of his apartment and covertly photographed and recorded the movement of military convoys.
He sent the footage and texts with explanations to his ‘contact’ in the temporarily occupied part of Donetsk region – an employee of the russia-controlled ‘DNR ministry of state security’.
The aggressor needed the data to plan combat operations aimed at slowing down Ukraine’s counteroffensive.
The SSU Counterintelligence detained the enemy informant ‘red-handed’ when he was covertly recording a video from the window of his home.
The SSU seized the mobile phone, which the enemy accomplice used for reconnaissance and communication with the FSB.
According to the investigation, the suspect is a 48-year-old resident of Dobropillia, recruited by the FSB in 2018.
The man came to the aggressor’s attention because of his pro-russian activity in one of the pro-kremlin Telegram groups.
After several ‘test’ assignments, his handler put the informant on standby’ until the start of russia’s full-scale invasion.
Based on the evidence collected, SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion under Article 111-1.7 of the CCU (providing assistance to the armed forces of the aggressor state in conducting military actions against the AFU and other military formations).
The suspect is in custody, facing up to 15 years in prison. The investigation is ongoing.
The operation was carried out under the procedural supervision of Donetsk Region Prosecutor’s Office.
