SSU detains FSB informant who provided intelligence to enemy on defence of Sumy and Dnipropetrovsk regions

The SSU Military Counterintelligence thwarted a new attempt by russia to obtain up-to-date information on the defence of Ukraine’s frontline regions.

As a result of a special operation in Sumy, the SSU apprehended an FSB informant who was spying on Ukrainian troops near the frontline.

The perpetrator tried to identify the locations of electronic warfare equipment, fortified areas, artillery firing positions, and the movement routes of the Defence Forces in Sumy and Dnipropetrovsk regions.

The traitor turned out to be a 22-year-old unemployed man from Sumy who, while searching for easy money’ on Telegram channels, came to the attention of an employee of the ‘FSB directorate for the Republic of Crimea’.

Following his instructions, the man initially operated in Konotop district, Sumy region.

Among other things, he installed a hidden video camera with remote access for the occupiers near a local highway.

With its help, the enemy hoped to track air strikes on convoys of the Defence Forces moving towards the front line.

Later, the FSB sent their agent to Dnipropetrovsk region, where he spied on the movements of Ukrainian troops.

The SSU thwarted the occupiers’ plans and detained their accomplice.

During the searches, smartphones with several SIM cards, which he used for covert contacts with the FSB, were seized.

SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion under Article 114-2.3 of the CCU (unauthorized dissemination of information on the movement or location of the AFU, committed under martial law).

The suspect is in custody without bail and faces up to 12 years in prison.

The operational and investigative actions were carried out by the SSU Offices in Sumy and Dnipropetrovsk regions under the procedural supervision of Sumy Region Prosecutor’s Office.
