The Security Service of Ukraine has detained another enemy informant in Kharkiv. He turned out to be a local man who, whilst evading mobilisation, began helping russia target the regional centre.

It has been established that the suspect made contact with the russian intelligence via Telegram and offered his assistance in the war against Ukraine.

Following instructions from the ruscists, their accomplice gathered intelligence on the locations of Defence Forces bases, which the aggressor state used to prepare combined attacks, including with guided aerial bombs and strike drones.

The enemy was most interested in the coordinates of reserve command posts, concentrations of vehicles and the logistics depots of Kharkiv’s defenders.

To gather intelligence, the perpetrator covertly elicited information from his wife and acquaintances, as he himself rarely left home.

The spotter then marked the geolocations of Ukrainian targets on Google Maps, adding comments for a subsequent ‘report’ to russia.

The SSU documented the informant’s crimes and arrested him at his home.

During the searches of the suspect’s premises, three smartphones were found. He constantly changed them to maintain covert communication with the russians.

SSU investigators have notified the detainee of his status as a suspect under Article 114-2.2 of the CCU (unauthorised dissemination of information regarding the movement or deployment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine or other military formations established in accordance with the laws of Ukraine, committed under martial law).

The suspect is in custody and faces up to 8 years’ imprisonment.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in the Kharkiv region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
