SSU detains russia’s informant who spied on Defence Forces in Ukraine’s south
As a result of counter-sabotage efforts in the frontline areas of Mykolaiv oblast, the SSU exposed another enemy accomplice.
The offender is a Mykolaiv resident, recruited by russian special services earlier this year.
On the aggressor’s instructions, he walked around the city and its suburbs and covertly photographed the Defence Forces facilities on his phone camera.
The enemy was primarily interested in locations of Ukrainian defenders, number of personnel and weapons.
The spy also identified coordinates of key transport routes, amount of traffic on them and possible movement of convoys with ammunition.
Occupiers needed the intelligence to adjust their air strikes on Ukrainian targets.
The SSU detained the suspect when he was conducting reconnaissance.
According to the investigation, the man came to the attention of russian intelligence because of his activity in one of the pro-kremlin Telegram channels, where he wrote anti-Ukrainian comments.
During the search, the SSU seized the computer equipment and data carriers that the spy used to store and transmit information to the aggressor.
SSU investigators served the detained enemy agent a notice of suspicion.
The offender is in custody, facing up to 12 years in prison.
The SSU Office in Mykolaiv region carried out the operation under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
